Spiritual Blindness

Only the Lord is able to turn a heart towards Himself. So be not discouraged in the presence of the blinded but be wise of their position and resolve to be faithful. Our duty is in obedience, the outcome is His.

“You can’t convince those who cannot be convinced.” ~ Jay Adams

“Scripture affirms that all people are naturally blind to the truth. Our most reasoned arguments will not avail to convert anyone. Our only option is to plead with God to open the eyes of those we would see saved.” ~ R.C Sproul

“But to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to understand or eyes to see or ears to hear.” ~ Deuteronomy 29:4

“They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.” ~ Psalm 82:5

“This is why I speak to them in parables: Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.” ~ Matthew 13:13-16

“Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” ~ Matthew 15:14

“Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures…” Luke 24:45

“Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” ~ John 9:39

“He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” ~ John 9:25

“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.” ~ John 12:40

“To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” ~ Acts 26:18

“And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” ~Romans 1:28-32

“For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” ~ Romans 8:7-8

“As it is written, ‘God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day.’” ~ Romans 11:8

“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:{6-}14

“But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.” ~ 2 Corinthians 3:14-16

“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” ~ 2 Corinthians 4:4

“Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.” ~ Ephesians 4:17-18
