Ginger Hubbard puts it all out there…probably more than you want to know.
“We’re trapped in an Alfred Hitchcock movie and I’m not even wearing clean underwear!” ~ Ginger Hubbard
The book is broken down into seven short chapters where Ginger candidly reveals areas of sin in her life, sometimes in the life of others and offers God’s grace in response.
Ginger’s intense personality is palpable throughout the pages with her humor and seemingly impulsive responses to situations and people around her.
“Humility is hard. Without Christ living through us, it is impossible.” ~ Ginger Hubbard
As the premise suggests, Ginger reminds us to confess our sins to one another throughout the book. Ginger is confessing her sins publicly for the sake of her book but that is not mandated by Scripture. If it is a public figure then by all means publicly confess to reach those concerned. An important distinction is that Scripture tell us that we are to confess our sins to those we have offended, even perhaps a counselor or minster for counsel and prayer and most assuredly God, whom we have offended most. God is faithful and just to forgive our sins as we confess them to Him. We do not require mediators in our confessions to God.
“At the heart of control is distrust – a distrust in God’s sovereignty.” ~ Ginger Hubbard
As women Ginger’s experiences are relatable and ring true to those situations in our own lives. We need to be mindful to view our experiences through Scripture, not Scripture through our experiences. At times in Guiltless Living this lens is skewed.
We are guiltless because we are justified. However, we will continue to sin throughout our earthly lives and require repentance as an ongoing part of sanctification. Scripture provides ample guidance on how to war against sin. For the Christian, only at death or when Christ returns will we be freed from sin forevermore.
There is a concern where Ginger positively quotes Richard Foster who is an advocate of the Spiritual Formation Movement. A movement away from Biblical Truth’s toward forms of mysticism.
Guiltless Living is witty, fast paced, personally straightforward and practical. However, Biblical discernment may get lost in the shuffle. Be a Berean.
Guiltless Living includes a Bible Study Guide at the back of the book for each chapter.
